    Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The Dotsure SWD Eagles faced a challenging encounter this past weekend, going down 26–17 to the Toyota Cheetahs in a highly anticipated SA Cup clash.

While the result didn’t go their way, the match proved to be a valuable test for the Dotsure SWD Eagles rugby team, who continue to build momentum and depth as the competition progresses.

Coming off a strong run of performances, the Dotsure SWD Eagles entered the fixture with confidence and determination. Facing one of the top sides in the competition, the team showed resilience and moments of real promise, particularly in phases of structured attack and defensive organisation.

Despite the scoreboard, the match highlighted the growth within the squad and the continued development under the guidance of the Dotsure SWD Eagles coach, Heyneke Meyer, and their management team.

Dotsure, as headline sponsor of the SWD Eagles team, remains firmly committed to supporting the team’s long-term vision and journey back to the top tier of South African rugby.

“Our belief in the team goes beyond a single result,” says Glen Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer at Dotsure. “What we’re building with the Dotsure SWD Eagles is something bigger, an investment in talent, community, and the future of SWD rugby.”

The game also drew strong local support, reinforcing the deep connection between the team and the George community. That energy continues to play a crucial role as the Dotsure SWD Eagles push forward in the SA Cup.

With several key fixtures still ahead, the focus now shifts to regrouping, refining, and coming back stronger and prepared for their next home-game facing the Griffons at Outeniqua Park this Saturday, 25 April, at 15:00.

DOTSURE SWD EAGLES TAKE FLIGHT: NEW HEADLINE SPONSORSHIP TO POWER RETURN TO GLORY

Fresh off a triumphant third victory in the SA Cup this past weekend, the Dotsure SWD Eagles have officially entered an exciting new era. The announcement of Dotsure as the team’s official title sponsor marks the start of a multi-year partnership designed to revitalise SWD rugby and fuel a high-stakes return to top-tier competition.

The sponsorship represents a significant investment in the future of the SWD Eagles rugby team, with a clear focus on building squad depth, attracting elite new talent, and ensuring long-term competitiveness. For Dotsure’s Chief Commercial Officer, Glen Anderson, the partnership is a blend of strategic intent and deep-rooted local pride.

“For me, this is personal. As a proud George boy who remembers the glory days of the Eagles, I am incredibly excited that our business can play a major role in bringing the team back to the level they deserve to be at,” says Anderson. “We look forward to watching the Dotsure SWD Eagles soar in their respective competitions as they aim for a glorious return to the Currie Cup.”

The timing of the announcement aligns perfectly with the team’s current upward trajectory. SWD Eagles results have already shown early promise in the SA Cup, with the team securing a vital win this past weekend over the Sanlam Boland Kavaliers. A win which Anderson says reinforces the underdog narrative that made this partnership such a natural fit.

Under the leadership of former Springbok coach, Heyneke Meyer, the young squad has demonstrated renewed cohesion and attacking intent. Meyer’s vision involves using this new investment to add vital depth to his promising roster of players.

This commitment to the team is an extension of Dotsure’s broader Soft Landings philosophy, a core company value centred on providing a safety net and support when it matters most. This includes the backing of the George community and its sporting icons through periods of growth and transition.

With a strengthened foundation and legendary coaching, the focus now shifts to sustaining this performance level and building toward the next major milestone: Currie Cup qualification. “The team needs the support of the local community”, says Anderson. “We want to make Outeniqua Park a fortress, again!”  The next home game is on 18 April at 15:00 against the Toyota Cheetahs, which promises to be a mouthwatering encounter.

  • DOTSURE.CO.ZA RAISES OVER R15K FOR GARDEN ROUTE SPCA THROUGH “SPCA LOCKED UP FOR LOVE” FUNDRAISER

DOTSURE.CO.ZA RAISES OVER R15K FOR GARDEN ROUTE SPCA THROUGH “SPCA LOCKED UP FOR LOVE” FUNDRAISER

dotsure.co.za and its employees have collectively raised R15,800 for the Garden Route SPCA through the annual SPCA Locked Up for Love fundraising initiative — exceeding the R10,000 bail target set for the symbolic “arrest” of colleague Piwe Bomvu on Friday, 13 February.

The light-hearted event forms part of a broader initiative by the Garden Route SPCA aimed at raising essential funding for animal welfare. Community figures are “locked up” until they raise bail, with proceeds supporting the SPCA’s critical work caring for abandoned, neglected and vulnerable animals.

While the concept may be playful, the need is serious.

    How is the SPCA funded?

Many people don’t realise that SPCAs across South Africa rely heavily on public donations, community fundraising initiatives and corporate partnerships to sustain operations. From veterinary care and sterilisation programmes to food, shelter and adoption services, ongoing funding is essential to ensure animals receive the care and protection they deserve.

“Supporting initiatives like SPCA Locked Up for Love resonates strongly with our organisations singular purpose of providing our world with Soft Landings,” says Glen Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer at dotsure.co.za. “We insure pets every day — but we also believe in actively investing in the organisations that protect vulnerable animals who don’t yet have homes.”

Supporting the Heroes on the Ground

The Garden Route SPCA continues to be a lifeline for animals in need across the region. From emergency rescues and cruelty inspections to rehabilitation and adoption, their teams work tirelessly to give vulnerable pets a second chance at life.

Funds raised through the initiative will contribute toward:

    • Food and daily care for sheltered animals
    • Veterinary treatment and sterilisation programmes
    • Shelter maintenance and operational costs
    • Support for pets awaiting adoption and their forever homes

As South Africa’s #1 pet insurer, dotsure.co.za believes in supporting animal welfare at scale, expanding its national footprint of partnerships, contributing to animal welfare efforts across broader parts of the country.

    How to Make a Difference

Those inspired by the initiative and wondering how to volunteer at SPCA branches or contribute to local animal welfare efforts are encouraged to contact their nearest SPCA directly. Volunteer support, foster programmes and community fundraising ideas for animal shelters all play a vital role in sustaining operations.

Community-driven fundraising initiatives — like SPCA Locked Up for Love — demonstrate how collective action can create meaningful impact.
