MOVIE NIGHT GOES TO THE DOGS AT THE GALILEO OPEN AIR CINEMA

On Friday, 8 May 2026, pet parents and their four-legged movie buddies gathered under the stars at the The Galileo Open Air Cinema for a wholesome evening of tail wags, cuddles, and cinema magic.

A Pet-Friendly Evening Under the Cape Town Sky

The featured film for the evening was the beloved classic Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, a movie that has long held a special place in the hearts of animal lovers everywhere. With cosy blankets, happy pets, and plenty of laughter filling the venue, it was the perfect reminder that pet-friendly events are some of the best ways to bond with your furry family members.

Representing dotsure.co.za at the event, the team joined fellow pet lovers for an unforgettable outdoor movie experience while also supporting animal welfare. As part of the evening, we donated blankets to African Tails to help provide comfort and warmth to pets in their care.

Puppies, Playtime, and Plenty of Tail Wags

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the adorable African Tails puppies, who arrived dressed in tiny jerseys and quickly became the stars of the show.

“My favourite memory from the event was seeing how friendly all the pets were,” said Caitlin Morgan, a dotsure.co.za representative at the event. “They were running around together, playing, and genuinely having the best time. It felt so wholesome to watch everyone enjoying themselves.”

The atmosphere throughout the evening showcased exactly why dog-friendly shows and open-air cinemas continue to grow in popularity among South African pet parents. Watching movies outdoors with pets creates a relaxed environment where people and animals alike can socialise and make memories together.

In the words of pet mom, Lindi Pieterse, “This experience with Dotsure was pure magic from start to finish. From the beautiful setting to the warm atmosphere, it created such a memorable evening for our family.”

Do Dogs Like Movies?

For many pet parents attending the event, the evening also sparked conversations around whether dogs like movies and if watching films can help strengthen the bond between pets and their humans. While not every dog will follow a movie storyline, many dogs enjoy the calming atmosphere and quality time spent alongside their families during movie nights.
