The Dotsure SWD Eagles gave the Southern Cape plenty to celebrate this past weekend, defeating the Valke 41-21 at Outeniqua Park Stadium to lift the Carling Currie Cup First Division trophy in front of a packed home crowd on Friday, 24 July 2026.

The victory was about more than silverware. It was the kind of day that brought a community together, with thousands of supporters turning out to back their team and celebrate what many hope is a bright new chapter for rugby in the region.

A Championship Win Shared by the Community

Adding to the occasion, Outeniqua Park Stadium celebrated its 60th birthday on the very same day, making the championship win even more special for generations of supporters who have cheered from its stands over the decades.

For Head Coach Heyneke Meyer, one of the proudest moments was seeing the stadium filled with supporters once again. “I just feel blessed seeing all these people coming to support the team, since I said my dream was to fill the stadium and bring rugby back to the community. So, I’m so proud of my players, assistant coaches, and everyone that worked so hard.”

Kick-off marked the beginning of a memorable day as the Dotsure SWD Eagles took to the field in pursuit of glory.

Just two days before kick-off, Meyer and Team Captain Carel du Preez spoke to Algoa FM about the belief growing within the team and their shared goal of making the province proud. By Friday evening, those hopes had become reality.

Lifting the Carling Currie Cup Trophy on Home Soil

Speaking on the field during the celebrations, du Preez reflected on what the victory means for both the team and their supporters.

“We can say with pride that we’re here to stay, and we’re here to make a difference.”

For Dotsure, supporting the Eagles has been about more than having a logo on a jersey. It’s about backing our people and celebrating the moments that bring them together.

This victory belongs to everyone who played a part, from the players and coaches to the volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and every fan who filled the stands and believed in the team. If the atmosphere at Outeniqua Park is anything to go by, the future of rugby in the Southern Cape is looking brighter than ever.
